On Malinda Grommet’s business card, a logo of a bee wearing a crown sits center stage. It symbolizes two attributes that define her as a person and an artist. Her mantra is “be true to yourself.” Thus, the bee just above the words True Designs. She also describes herself as “enjoying all things girly.” And that’s where the queen’s crown comes in.

True Designs was forged out of Malinda’s desire to be true to herself. She began exploring her creative side and in 2004 founded the company. Her distinctive designs explore texture as precious metals are cast, carved and burnished, giving a sculptural effect. She often repurposes found objects, either working them directly into charms or borrowing motifs to impress in sterling silver.

Malinda says, “The first thing I think about when designing a new piece is ‘Would I want to wear this myself?’” Because of this, the pieces always combine femininity and artistry.
